Notes

Twenty species of Rotifera, never before recorded in this region, were found in Bayou De Siard. A table of temperatures, pH's, conductivities, and methyl orange alkalinites is shown. The collections and measurements were made weekly during the winter of 1964-1965 at Monroe, Lousiana. The environmental conditions measured varied little during this study. The agreement between the lack of a definite trend in the percent composition of the rotifer population (listed in a Table) and the small haphazard variations in the physicochemical factors is explained in light of a modern population variations hypothesis (Hutchinson's hyperspace environmental coordinates hypothesis). Despite in heavy concentration of algae, the presence of two species of euplankters in late winter is accounted for by the disturbed condition of Bayou De Siard.
