Water quality index and self-purification capacity of a sewage collecting channel, Morar (Kalpi) river at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, were studied in different seasons at various stations during the period 1987-1989. Abiotic parameters like DO2, COD, total solids, sulphides and nitrites were considered for the assessment of self purification capacity of the river. The water quality indices were calculated in order to know the potability of water of the river for human consumption.
