A hitherto unknown rotifer species was found in ponds of Donana National Park (Spain) during winter 1990, 1991 and 1992. It belongs to the family Lecanidae (Monogononta), is related to Lecane ungulata and superficially resembles Lecane leontina. Two specimens of this species hatched after two days incubation of pond sediments in the laboratory.
