Notes

There is little knowledge about the true planktonic ciliates. Among the 6 typical species listed by Rylow (1935) there is also Amphileptus trachelioides (Zacharias, 1893), which has not been recorded from Czechoslovakia, previously (see the catalogues of Sramek-Husek 1952, 1953). The species was found in the plankton of the Klicava Resevoir (Central Bohemia), May 29th, 1963. It occurred in large numbers in the surface water layers in the middle of the reservoir area. It was possible to observe the ciliates macroscopically as small greyish white commas 0.5-0.7 mm in length, but only on the day of sampling. On the subsequent day no ciliates more were found. In comparison with the descriptions of Kahl (1930-1935) and Rylow (1935) the specimens of Klicava Reservoir showed some differences. The macronucleus of the beads shape consisted of 15-27 spherical granula, whereas Kahl indicated only 9-14 and Rylow 7-18 ones. The total length of the cell was essentially greater. Whereas Kahl indicated the length 230-270 µm, the width 180 to 200 µm, Rylow the same length and the width 100-300 µm, the specimens from Klicava reached more than 700 µm showing the width 130 µm. In the contracted state the measurements were 610x230 µm. In other features there were found no differences between the specimens frorn Klicava and literature data. This species was classified as oligosaprobic by Kolkwitz and Marsson (1909), already. The same was quoted by Kolkwitz (1950), Zadin and Rodina (1950) and Sladecek (1955). Kolkwitz (1950) stressed, that it is occurring also at beta-mesosaprobical habitats. Hohne (1963) found it scarcely in water supplying ponds at Freiberg in Saxonia. According to these references as well as according to the occurrence in the reservoirs Klicava and Vrane and Vltavou (Sladecek, 1962) it is possible to establish the saprobiological valency according to the 10-points-system of Zelinka and Marvan (1961) in the following way: x=0, o=7, beta=3, alpha=0, p=0; Weight=4.
