12 of 26 fresh examined sponges from the Gulf of Naples were inhabited by ciliates. Their population densities were small. A strict relation to the biotop << sponge >> could not be observed. The occurrence of ciliates in marine sponges is interpreted as << fakulative Entokie >>.
