Notes

Five hypothetic rows of species of the rotatorian genus Collotheca starting with littoral and benthic ones and ending with pelagic ones were established; 1. C. breviciliata (or edentata) - C. liepetterseni 2. C. calva - C. mutabilis 3. C. annulata - C. libera 4. C. ornata ornata - C. pelagica and C. undulata 5. C. ornata ornata - C. ornata natans and C. discophora. The present littoral species are a less or more changed descendants of the original basic species, from which the development to the pelagic life started. It can be believed that at the pelagic species C. liepetterseni the speciation took place during the last 10,000 years after the termination of the last glacial period.
