The structure of Distomatopyxis praecursor sp. nov. (New-Guinea forestsoils) shows that Distomatopyxidae originate from the gondwanian genus Lamtopyxis through manifestation of a binary symmetry, joining of the teeth and formation of a buccal diaphragm. The family has subsequently reached Japan. North- and Central America.
