Eighteen species of Testacea have been found in four soils from Signy Island. One species, Corythion dubium, constituted about 80 per cent of the population. In Deschampsia grassland the numbers of live Testacea were estimated at 890+/-150x10E6/m2 with an approximate biomass (live weight of protoplasm) of 2.0 g/m2.
