Notes

Between 1966 and 1969 samples of bank-sands, waterplants, mud surface and open water were taken from the Hase, a confluent of the Ems (Northwest Germany) every 4 weeks. The microfauna of these series were examined under a mikroscope to determine the abundance of Rotatories. 187 Rotatoria species were found in the stream-section between the towns of Osnabruck and Quakenbruck. Although these species are partially flown in from surrounding waters, we can regard most of them, especially thouse of the Mikrobenthos as true streamdwellers. The 36 species with the largest population inhabiting this section of the Hase during the mentioned period, are nearly all indicator organisms for moderate (beta-mesosaprobe) to strongly (alpha-mesosaprobe) polluted water-zones.
