The colonisation of the soil by Testacea originates from the Periphyton of waters. The Periphyton-inhabiting Testacea have a large reservoir of genes, which favours the colonisation of the soil by these animals. In the soil there is a decrease in the number of families and in adaptive characters. In the humus these trends are clearer than in litter.
