Notes

A light and electron microscopical study of the cell surfaces of members of the amoeban genera Mayorella and Paramoeba, and of some unidentified species, shows various structures. Mayorella riparia Page 1972, bears boat-shaped scales of complex structure, between which occur smaller, simpler scales and hair-like processes. Its surface structure is compared with those of other related species. The bearing which these and other observations have on the systematic positions of the genera Mayorella and Paramoeba is discussed.
