Notes

Oxygen consumption by all developmental stages of a nematode, Pelodera (Cruznema) monhysteroides was measured at temperatures of 5, 10 and 20 degrees C. A zone of some "relative temperature independence" was observed. Juvenile stages revealed augmented metabolism as compared with other nematode species or ecological groups. This is most probably linked with a fast development and a shortened ontogenesis, which can be considered as an adaptation to saprobiotic environment.
