Lorica composed of one rigid piece, laterally composed. Surface of lorica plain. Lorica with a small ventral opening for the foot. Foot annulated with one or two toes. Mastax virgate. (ref. ID; 1663)

The species is distinguished on the basis of the following characters. 1. number of the toes 2. features (as seen on side view) of the head region 3. body length 4. position of the foot 5. position of the dorsal antenna. Of these, the length of the body, the position of the foot opening, are not so important as the systemtics and Sudzuki prefers to use the number of the unclei within the vitellarium as the first taxonomic character. This species, common in lake plankton is the most colorful rotifer; violet epidermis, blue stomach studded with orange fat globules, and red eye. (ref. ID; 1923)
