Haptotricoma

Haptotricoma Lorenzen, 1977 (ref. ID; 878)

ref. ID; 878

Body cuticle with more than 100 annules; each annule provided with a transverse row of fine or short stout spines sometimes surrounded by secretion material forming scales. The spines may be arranged in longitudinal rows and secretion and foreign particles may form a thin irregularly dispersed layer. Somatic setae about equal in number on both sides; the posterior setae are large glandular setae. Female reproductive system didelphic-amphidelphic with outstretched branches. Two spermathecae. Body cuticle in juveniles annulated and provided with minute spines and a thin layer of secretion material. (ref. ID; 878)

Descriptions

This species is, by the ornamentation of its body cuticle, to some extent related to Pareudesmoscolex-species; however the shape and length of the scales are different. The differentiation in the somatic setae consisting of fine somatic setae and large glandular setae is an autapomorphous character. The possession of fine or stout spines is a juvenile character. As Pareudesmoscolex, Haptotricoma is considered a genus with juvenile characters. (ref. ID; 878)
