Body elongate with anterior distinctly narrowed to from a blunt pointed 'beak' which is strongly bent towards the left. Body dorso-ventrally flattened and ciliated on both surfaces. Oral aperture in anterior body quarter but displaced to the right. Oral apparatus supported by a basket of trichites. There is a distinct obliquely oriented post-oral frange composed of a line of compound ciliary organelles. The frange extends left anteriorly up the pointed beak region and posteriorly past the oral aperture almost to the right body edge. There is a large, usually terminal, contractile vacuole and the macronucleus is ovoid.
