Acinetides
Acinetides Swarczewsky, 1928 (ref. ID; 2013)
Class Kinetofragminophora: Subclass Suctoria: Order Suctorida: Suborder Endogenina (ref. ID; 2013)
[ref. ID; 2013]
Body is an inverted elongate conical shape which is extended posteriorly like a stalk but is filled with cytoplasm. This later region terminates in a short stalk proper. There is a closely fitting lorica which with the exception of the 2 tentacle-regions is completely filled by the body. The tentacles are short and arranged in 2 fascicles. The macronucleus is elongate and a larva is produced by endogenous budding.
This is a single species genus originally described in Lake Baikal by Swarczewsky (1928), who found it growing on gammarid crustacea (Poeckilogammarus pictus). Acinetides is most easily confused with Acineta.
