Atmospheric trace gas data from the CONTRAIL flask air sampling over the Eurasian continent (most recent data)

This data set contains trace gas mole fractions observed over the Eurasian continent by the flask air sampling of the CONTRAIL (Comprehensive Observation Network for TRace gases by AIrLiner) project. Air samples were collected by the Automatic air Sampling Equipment (ASE) and manually by the Manual air Sampling Equipment (MSE) on board commercial aircraft of Japan Airlines (JAL). This data set consists of observational data between Tokyo and Paris, and Tokyo and Moscow.
This data set contains the most recently obtained data, whose QA/QC is still in progress. Because of this, the citation policy and format are different from those of the regular data (Machida et al., 2018). Please read carefully the citation policy written below. Furthermore, a password is required to download the data, which can be obtained by contacting the CONTRAIL PIs ( Note that these data will be merged into the regular data set at the next major update.

Atmospheric mole fractions of CO2 and CH4
Observation period
From April 23, 2012 (ongoing)
Measurement method
Air samples were introduced to various analyzers by an automated analysis system. The CO2 mole fraction was measured using a nondispersive infrared gas analyzer (NDIR; LI-6252 or LI-6262, LI-COR) and the CH4 mole fraction was measured using a gas chromatograph (Agilent 5890 or 7890A, Agilent Technologies Inc.) equipped with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID).
Calculation method
The CO2 and CH4 mole fractions in the sample air were calculated by least square fit assuming a quadratic relationship between the responses of analyzers and the mole fractions of four standard gases. The values of standard gases were based on the NIES95 scale for CO2 and the NIES94 scale for CH4.
