This dataset contains a set of simulation output by a terrestrial ecosystem model, the Vegetation Integrative SImulator for Trace gases (VISIT). The simulation was conducted for the historical period from 1901 to 2020, using an observation-based climate data and land-use data.

Data Set

Parameters
Gross primary production, ecosystem respiration, net ecosystem CO2 exchange, wetland CH4 emission, cropland N2O emission
Domain
Global
Time resolution
1 month
Spatial resolution
0.5 x 0.5 degree
Calculation method
The global model simulations were conducted with a spatial resolution of 0.5 x 0.5 degree in latitude and longitude, at a monthly time step. Net ecosystem CO2 exchange was calculated as the difference between photosynthetic uptake and respiratory emission, each of which is estimated with ecophysiological relationships. Methane emission from wetlands was calculate with two wetland schemes, which differ in complexity of methane-related processes. Nitrous oxide emission was calculated with a semi-empirical nitrification and denitrification scheme, including the effect of fertilizer input in croplands.
