Share of households without electricity or other modern energy services

備考

・Percentage of population using solid fuels as source for cooking. Solid fuels include biomass fuels, such as wood, charcoal, crops or other agricultural waste, dung, shrubs and straw, and coal.
・The indicator covers multiple sustainable development issues. Most importantly, the use of solid fuels in households is a proxy for indoor air pollution, which is associated with increased mortality from pneumonia and other acute lower respiratory infections among children as well as increased mortality from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer (where coal is used) among adults. High demand for biomass fuels to meet household energy needs can contribute to deforestation and subsequent land degradation. The indicator also measures access to modern energy services, central to poverty alleviation and sustainable development in general.
