Map Title
Biodiversity Dataset Search
Abstract
On this map, you can explore datasets related to biodiversity studies provided by the Biodiversity Division, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES). There are two types of datasets that can be overlapped as layers: (1) occurrence data formatted with Darwin Core, which is the standard format for biodiversity data and (2) environmental polygon data. The occurrence data can be filtered by datasets, taxon, prefectures, presence/absence, and periods, i.e., data can also be searched across datasets. Point data are displayed in different colors for each dataset (datasets of research conducted in the exact same location are displayed in the same color). The Darwin Core Archive (ZIP format) can be downloaded in the dataset units for occurrence data. Mesh data for the polygon data can be provided on request based on application for its use. Please refer to the associated websites and data papers shown in the metadata for the details of each dataset.

Explanation |
Dataset |
Select a dataset from the metadata table by clicking "Select from metadata" or choose from the dropdown menu. Taxon and prefecture lists are narrowed down by selecting a dataset. A title of the selected dataset will be shown in the dropdown menu.
|
Taxon |
Candidates for kingdom and class (available for certain mammals only) are displayed.
|
Prefecture |
Candidates for prefectures are displayed.
|
Present or Absent |
"Present" indicates that an organism exists based on observation or specimen records, while "Absent" indicates that an organism does not exist.
|
Period |
If checked, the bar will be enabled, and you can select the period by moving the bar. |
