Director, Deputy Director, Research Coordinator
Integrated Environmental Risk Research Section
@Comprehensive promotion of research and projects relating to environmental risks@
We carry out research aimed at keeping in step with international developments, including the systematization of risk evaluation methodology, the development of ecological evaluation methods useful in the determination of management criteria and standards, the development of a database relating to environmental risks, and the development of methods to predict the toxicity of chemical substances.

Environmental Exposure Research Section
@Development of methods for identifying exposure to and effects of chemical substances in the environment@
We develop techniques, such as measurement methods, assessment methods, and modeling of environmental behavior.

Ecological Risk Modeling Section
@Clarifying mechanisms useful for assessments and developing methods for evaluating ecological risks@
We develop mathematical models and numeric simulation techniques for evaluating the effects of environmental risk factors, such as chemical substances on the sustainability of wildlife and ecosystems. We investigate and identify optimal management methodology that take into consideration costs of managing ecological risks.
Ecosystem Impact Research Section
@Field surveys for the examination of environmental risks, experimental research, and development of methods to estimate the exposure and the effects through the environment@
We carry out field surveys and experimental research to examine environmental risks to wildlife that are of concern at population, community, and ecosystem levels. We propose techniques by which to identify the conditions of the effects and clarify their mechanisms.
Health Risk Research Section
@Research of mechanisms for contributing to toxicity evaluation and the development of methods for evaluation of health risks@
We carry out research relating to development of methods for the evaluation of the health risks from chemical substances, including new materials such as nanomaterials. We optimize the indicators for neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, genotoxicity, and respiratory toxicity for substances with different chemical and physical properties. We contribute to the environmental risk evaluation of the toxic substances based on our research.

Strategic Risk Management Research Section
@Research relating to policies and management toward environmental risks and risk communication@
We carry out research on the mathematical analysis on the emission of chemical substances and their environmental fate. We carry out research on scenarios of emission and exposure in conjunction with social science studies, and propose new management strategies to deal with the environmental risks of chemical substances.
