NovemberParticipation in the Task Force Bureau Meeting of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Programme (NGGIP) of the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC)
The Task force Bureau meeting of NGGIP / IPCC was held in the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) / IPCC from November 25th to 27th in Hayama, Kanagawa, Japan. Manager Dr. Nakane gave a presentation concerning the improvement of the IPCC Guidelines as an industrial processes expert.

- NovemberParticipation in the UNFCCC, the 8th Sessions of the Conference of the Parries (COP8)
The COP8 was held in Delhi, India from October 21st to November 1st. GIO’s manager, Dr. Nakane and researcher Aizawa participated in this conference as members of Japanese government delegations and supported the negotiations concerning “Organizational Observations”, ”Stratospheric Ozone”, and “National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention”.

OctoberSubmission of Full Proposal to the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN)
GIO submitted the full proposal on the three-year research project to improve the greenhouse gas inventories in the Asia-Pacific region on October 25th.

SeptemberParticipation in UNFCCC Centralized Review of the Greenhouse Gas Inventories Submitted in the year 2000
The Centralized Review of the Greenhouse Gas Inventories Submitted in the year 2000 was held in Bonn, Germany from September 5th to 13th. Researcher Aizawa participated and was assigned to review the specific sectors of the inventories of five parties.

GIO held initial seminar on September 5th. In this seminar, we introduced its history, and had a discussion of over all issues related to greenhouse gas inventories.

- AugustPreparation of National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Submitted in July, 2002
GIO prepared the national greenhouse gas inventories for the year 1999 -2000 and submitted them to the secretariat of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. GIO also prepared the press material for the Ministry of the Environment concerning the total emissions and the cause of its decrease and increase.

JuneParticipation in United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Seventeenth Sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI16)
SBI16 was held in Bonn, Germany from June 5 to 14, 2002. Tomoyuki Aizawa, researcher of GIO, participated in this conference as a member of Japanese government delegations and assited the negotiations concerning “Technical Issues”.
