Basin Ecosystem Functions Research Program
Outline of Program
We focus on material and water cycles for basin ecosystems (lakes and wetlands, rivers, coastal regions, etc.)-developing methodologies for the quantitative assessment of ecosystem function. We will further implement long-term strategic monitoring activities and assess the relationships between ecosystem function and various environmental factors.
On the basis of these assessments, we will develop methodologies and techniques for evaluating the health of basin ecosystems, and implement research into optimal conditions for the conservation of ecosystems and for nature restoration.
