The soil (The gleyic cambisol used was taken from the 0-10 cm layer at Stromovka parc, Ceske Budejovice, Czechoslovakia) 40 g was placed in each of 32 plastic pots (100 ml volume). The soil depth in the pots was 2.8 cm and the surface area was 24.62 cm2. The bottoms of the pots were cut off and replaced by a piece of cotton cloth which was held firmly by a plastic ring. Twelve worms (average fresh body mass per individuals 4.152+/-0.220 mg) were put into each pots. Temperature 15+/-1 degrees C.

Body weight. The activities of amylase, xylanase, trehalase, and C1-cellulase in the gut.
