Somatic kineties are formed by successive pairs of ciliated kinetosomes united by 3 desmoses. The anterior kinetosome bears an anterior transverse ribbon, a dense tractus, 1-3 postciliary microtubules. The fibrillar associates of the posterior kinetosome are a transverse ribbon which extends posteriad, a striated kinetodesmal fibril, a postciliary ribbon with a dense material. This cortical ultrastructure is identical to that described for the Colpodida. The paroral is a stichodyad but in each dyad a kinetosome secondairly disappears. The kinetosomes of the paroral row bear postciliary ribbons and microtubules which constitute the ribbons of the suctorial tube. This oral architecture demonstrate the prodigious adaptive diversification of the Colpodida and confirm the cortical ultrastructural conservatism hypothesis: indeed, the life cycle and the stomatogenesis of P. nana are also typically those of Colpodida.
