Notes
Four new species of marine freeliving nematodes from an intertidal sand flat in Bermuda are described: Paramonohystera wieseri n. sp., Steineria sterreri n. sp., Trefusia schiemeri n. sp. and Spirinia gnaigeri n. sp. Cytolaimium obtusicaudatum Chitwood, 1936 is redescribed from specimens from North Carolina and placed in the genus Rhabdocona Cobb, 1920. The status of the latter genus and genus Cytolaimium Cobb, 1920 within the systematically important family Trefusiidae is discussed. Paramonohystera wieseri n. sp. is of special interest, because it is the first marine metazoan which has been proved to be a true obligate anaerobe (see also Wieser et al. 1974).
