Notes

The passage of migratory pronuclei during conjugation of the suctorian ciliate Heliophrya erhardi from one organism into another is accomplished by contraction of a microtubule-filament network surrounding the migratory nucleus in a cup-shaped fashion. After the exchange of the gametic nuclei and the formation of a synkaryon in each conjugation partner, the contracted network seals off the passage of the migratory nucleus, preventing an exchange of cytoplasmic material.
