Notes

The amoeba Polychaos fasciculatum, previously only recorded by Penard (1902) from wetland habitats, has been rediscovered in chalk streams in Dorset, England. Growth rates and cell volumes of this amoeba were estimated under laboratory conditions at temperatures between 5-25 degrees C. Generation times ranged from 323 to 23.5 hr over these temperatures. The data are compared with results from the literature for both ciliates and amoebae.
