Notes

The relationship between two lumbricid species (Octodrilus frivaldszkyi and O. bihariensis) and calcium content in the development of vermic structure of a cambic rendzina has been studied in a subterranean laboratory. The morphological and micromorphological traces of the earthworm activity are tentatively explained on the basis of chemical equilibria in soil. The degree of stenobiontism towards calcium requirement was also investigated by testing the tolerance of these earthworms to acid soils, presumed to act as barriers in their distribution.
