A new genus, Neobakernema, is proposed and the diagnosis of Bakernema emended. Neobakernema differs from Bakernema by the open vulva, straight vagina, and spined juveniles. Type and only species is Neobakernema variabile (Raski & Golden, 1966) n. comb.
