Notes

A new species of the genus Euglena, E. zakrysiae sp. nova, is described from Korean fresh waters. Euglena zakrysiae is characterized by its having the naked pyrenoid and radially sinuous surface of disc-shaped chloroplasts. The species is assigned to the subgenus Calliglena (sensu Zakrys 1986) on the basis of axial-to-parietal chloroplasts with pyrenoids. Euglena zakrysiae appears to prefer waters with nitrogenous nutrients.
