Notes

A 6-min heating of a culture of vegetative cells of Chlamydomonas eugametos at a temperature of 36 degrees C and higher, leads to a complete deflagellation. The recovery of flagella starts after a latent period, and the higher the heating temperature is, the longer this period (1 hr 30 min after heating at 36 degrees C, and 15 hr at 42.3 degrees C). After heating above 43 degrees C no regeneration occurs. Elimination of heat damage stimulates the reparatory ability of cells, and the second repair results in a considerable decrease of the latent period.
