Notes

Generation time, duration of egg development and time of first reproduction of amictic females were determined in 3 planctonic Rotifer species: Polyarthra trigla, Synchaeta pectinata and 2 clones of Brachionus calyciflorus, one eurythermic, the other termophilic. At 20 degrees C the times of first egg laying are similar for the 3 species (about 28 hr). The duration of egg development is notably higher in the natural population of P. trigla (23 hr) than in the laboratory populations of the other species (13-16 hr). Values obtained are compared with litterature data.
