A total of 88 rotifer taxa are identified from Madagascar and the Comoros, of which 37 are new to the Madagassian fauna. No Rotifera were previously known from the Comoros. A taxonomical reevaluation of some of the presumed endemic rotifer taxa of Madagascar resulted in the synonymisation of Lecane camptica Berzins (1982) and L. lamiranoensis Berzins (1982) (and L. ceylonensis Chengalath & Fernando 1973) with L. hornemanni; L. fracida Berzins (1982) with L. ungulata; Macrochaetus aspera Berzins (1982) with M. collinsi, and M. dispar Berzins (1982) with M. altamirai. The subspecific status of Lecane lunaris arthrodactyla Berzins (1982) (and of L. quadridentata arthrodactyla Berzins 1982) and Lepadella cristata galerita Berzins (1982) is rejected. As a result of the present study, 12 taxa, including two generic, seven specific and three subspecific ones, remains as possible endemics of the Madagassian fauna.
