Laboratory and field experiments were carried out to test the impact of environmental factors on the shell shape of testate amoebae. Numerous clonal batch-cultures were established by isolating species of amoebae occurring in forest soils. An image-analysis system was used to take measures of about 6000 shells of Trinema lineare, Trinema enchelys, Euglypha strigosa, Euglypha rotunda, and Cyclopyxis eurystoma. The variability and distribution of the investigated shell parameters depend on species and conditions of culture (coefficient of variation 5-10%).
