Occurrences of leading microscopic animals (chiefly rotifers) have been investigated seasonally and locally basing on ca. 50 localities (85 sampling sites) consisting of dams, ponds, pools, rivers, ditches, paddy-fields, etc. scattered in such islands as Hateruma Jima (8 localities, 9 sites), Kuro-shima (5 loc. 7 st.), Taketomi Jima (5 loc. 6 st.), Kohama Jima (3 loc. 3 st.), Iriomote Jima (3 loc. 5 st.), Ishigaki Jima (5 loc. 13 st.), Yonaguni Jima (3 loc. 7 st.), Minami-Daito Jima (5 loc. 6 st.), Kume Jima (1 loc. 1 st.), Okinawa Honto (8 loc. 22 st.) and Sesoko Jima (6 loc. 6 st.). Until today, the following four results have been obtained: 1) Some 250 taxa of the Rotifera have been detected with both new species and new record, 2) Seasonal occurrences were clearly recognized, 3) The species hitherto recorded exclusively in other biogeographical regions have been found, 4) Several species, rarely encountered even in the world, have been rediscovered.
