Notes

During more than two years the sessile rotifers of a sphagnum-swamp in North West Germany were observed. After characterizing the biotope, the author tries to explain the variability of settlement in the course of the time. In order to remove the hitherto existing uncertainty in determination of the species Ptygura longicornis, P. longicornis bispicata, P. brachiata and P. velata, the most important taxonomical characteristics are put together after comparing with own observations. Ptygura cephaloceros grande subsp. nov. is described and figured; P. pedunculata Edmondson is new to the European fauna.
