A qualitative analysis has been made of Testacea communities in soils and mosses of forests in French Guiana. The primary forest has the highest species richness compared with the secondary forest and the number of species is lowest in experimentally deforested plots. Two new genera are described: Cornuapyxis n. gen., Pileolus n. gen. and seven new species: Centropyxis acuminata n. sp., C. guyanensis n. sp., Cornuapyxis lunaristoma n. sp., Lamtopyxis sarocchii n. sp., Trigonopyxis leidyi n. sp., Pileolus tuberosus n. sp., Heleopera alsiosa n. sp. The presence of eight gondwanian species is reported.
