The factor analysis of the soil Testacea in Corsica have shown that it is not only the quantity of water but above all the nature of it which is the decisive factor as to the specific composition of the communities. One can distinguish between four kinds of moisture depending on: 1) the nature of the soil (stability or variability of the water content), 2) the vegetation (forest area or not), 3) the climate (temperature and precipitations), 4) the level of the phreatic water.
