Notes

The statistical analysis of 139 samples of soils productive of truffles (Tuber melanosporum) in the south of France, of 494 samples of calcareous soils which are not productive of truffles and of 1000 samples of not calcareous soils reveals that: - The testacean fauna of truffles-soils is very different from the fauna of the other calcareous soils. - For some species, the probability of occurrence in truffles-soils is very high (characteristic species). - The profile of morphological types is very characteristic and different from the profile of the other soils. - The index of << aerophilie >> and the diversity index have a small value in truffles-soils. - The study of the testacean fauna can help to estimate the soil potentiality of production of truffles.
