Notes

The autochthonous calcite precipitation in Lake Stechlin results in a high offer of tiny grains of calcite utilized by Difflugia limnetica as basic material for the formation of the test coating. Calcite influences the morphology of the tests (structure, collar) and extends the duration of the planktonic starting phase of cyclomorphosis. Difflugia limnetica is an excellent indicator of calcite precipitation in lakes.
