Notes

Stentor is known to ingest various organisms, including rotifers, which may break out of the food vacuoles enclosing them (necessitating their reenclosure in a new vacuole). A description in offered here of the repeated occurrence of the complete escape of the rotifer Monostyla through the outer pellicle of the ciliate which had ingested it.
