Notes

A total of 127 rotifer species is identificated from 18 zooplankton samples collected in the North of Papua New Guinea. The description of a hitherto unknown Scaridium is presented, the taxonomy of Lepadella biloba Hauer (n. stat.) discussed. The major of species found is cosmopolitan of cosmotropical, some (8%) are restricted to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Old World and Notogaea, one was previously known from Australia only. Rotifer zoogeography is discussed in the light of contemporary taxonomic and faunistic knowledge.
