Body shape ovoid to cylindrical. Anterior end slightly truncated bearing unciliated ridge which spirals down the body to the posterior. Oral aperture is slit-like, borne upon the apical part of the ridge. Ciliation uniform either in spiral or longitudinal kineties. Macronucleus elongate to ovoid. Single terminal contractile vacuole. Genus erected by Stein (1859).

Description; Oval; spiral ridge complete turn; cytostome in the anterior end of the ridge, with a number of delicate trichites; ovoid to elongate macronucleus; a micronucleus; a terminal contractile vacuole. The ciliate was cultured bacteria-free by feeding on sterile Euglena gracilis. (ref. ID; 1618)
