Drilocrius alfari (ref. ID; 6024)

Descriptions

Circulatory apparatus: The anatomy of the vascular system of Drilocrius alfari is simple: the longitudinal vessels of the anterior region -in addition to the dorsal and ventral vessels- are one subneural and two latero-parietal vessels. The latero-parietal vessels originate near segment XV and run forward beneath the coelotelium. The oesophageal hearts are five pairs located in VII-XI, as in Criodrillidae, Hormogastridae and Lumbricidae; each heart has poorly developed valvular apparatus and consists of a single compartment. The intestinal blood sinus, which ends in segment VII, is likewise poorly developed; starting from segment XV it is split by longitudinal trabeculae arranged radially. This account differs in some respect from that by Brinkhurst and Jamieson (1971). (ref. ID; 6024)
