Remarks

Yamaguchi (1953) confirmed that Criodrilus miyashitai is a synonym of C. bathybates. In addition to Lake Biwa, this species has so far been recorded from several localities in the Kinki district and Yamagata Prefecture, northern Japan (Yamaguchi 1954). Thus, it is not endemic to Lake Biwa. Based on his phylogenetic analysis, Jamieson (1978) gave this taxon the status of a monotypic family within its own superfamily in the suborder Lumbricina. (ref.
