Adelodrilus
Adelodrilus Cook, 1969 (ref. ID; 5912, 6913) or Cook emm. Erseus, 1978 (ref. ID; 5945)
Family Tubificidae: Subfamily Phallodrilinae Brinkhurst (ref. ID; 5945)
ref. ID; 5912
Remarks
The genital anatomy of the only other dual prostate taxon, Adelodrilus Cook, 1969, is poorly understood. In the original description, Cook (1969) named the atria and penial bulbs on the basis of their function and histology, but Hrabe (1973), arguing presumably from the few known facts of genital morphogenesis in the Tubificidae, (Hrabe 1939) asserted that the atria are expanded vasa deferentia (mesodermal) and that the penial bulbs, because they bear prostate glands, are atria (ectodermal). Whichever interpretation is correct, it is evident that clear division of the male genitalia into these discrete functional units distinguishes Adelodrilus from the three other genera (Aktedrilus, Bacescuella, Phallodrilus).
