Usarpnema

Usarpnema Timm, 1978 (ref. ID; 878)

ref. ID; 878

After a study of the holotype male of U. auriculatum Timm, 1978, the taxonomic position of Usarpnema remains uncertain. The holotype male has a relatively poor inner condition, its body is flattened and it is dorsoventrally orientated. U. auriculatum possesses on the one hand characters of the Desmoscolecinae by showing a differentiation in length and shape between sub-dorsal and sub-ventral somatic setae and on the other hand features of the Tricominae by its large number of main rings (i.e. rings with warts and papillae), a large number of somatic setae arranged in a more or less tricomoid way. The number of testes could not be ascertained. However, based on its habitus and on the absence of a desmoscolecoid arrangement of the somatic setae Decraemer agree with Lorenzen (1981) to classify Usarpnema tentatively within the Tricominae.
