Descriptions

Body short, shape after fixation variable, straight to undulating, tapering on both sides, especially posteriorly. Lip region is continuous with the rest of the body. Cuticle with fine transverse striae (SEM). Somatic setae scarce. An inner whorl of six labial papillae and an outer whorl of ten very short setae i.e. less than 1 µm (SEM) on the lip region. Amphidial fovea circular, 2.7 µm (2.0-4.0 µm) wide and situated 2.3(1.7-2.8) lip region widths from the anterior end. In lateral view lips indistinguishable. Cheilostome almost twice as wide as the mouth opening. Stoma funnel-shaped and largely surrounded by pharyngeal tissue. A ventral denticle is situated at 8 µm (7-8 µm) from the anterior end. Pharynx muscular and cylindrical anteriorly, ending in a 'double' bulb of which the posterior one in the strongest, with well developed valve, while the anterior valve is weak and less conspicuous. Nerve ring posterior to middle of the pharynx. Opening of ventral gland not observed. Cardia elongate, rounded-hexagonal. Progaster clearly differentiated, with narrow lumen. Ventrally and behind the progaster occurs a hyaline body (coelomocyte or ventral gland?). Intestine highly granular, with wide lumen behind the progaster. Rectum slightly shorter than one anal body width. Tail around 13 times rectal length, elongate-conoid anteriorly and very slender posteriorly, with narrowly rounded terminus. In some specimens the tail is dorsally curved towards the tip. Only two caudal gland cells clearly seen. Many granular bodies present in the caudal region. A duct, leading the long 11.0 µm (9-13 µm) hyaline tail tip ('spinneret') is seen at its starting point, but inconspicuous towards the end. Female reproductive system prodelphic, monodelphic with outstretched ovary. Ovary situated at the right side of the intestine. Ovary with a short germinal zone, then an area with two rows of oocytes, followed by larger but fewer oocytes in one row. Gonoduct long, but inconspicuous in the absence of an egg. Vagina short and anteriorly directed. Vulva transverse, nearly equatorial. (ref. ID; 1311)
