Desmotricoma

Desmotricoma Decraemer, 1984 (ref. ID; 878)

ref. ID; 878

Desmotricoma represents a monotypic genus based upon D. spinicauda Decraemer, 1984 with a single female specimen (holotype). It can be clearly distinguished from all other Tricominae by its preculiar ornamentation of the body cuticule i.e. provided with prominent protruding concretion masses around long hairy spines, more or less arranged in rows and by its tail shape consisting of three parts. Its general habitus, tail- and head-shape and the tricomoid arrangement of the somatic setae designate Desmotricoma temporarily to the Tricominae until more specimens, especially males, become available. Desmotricoma resembles to some extent Spinodesmoscolex Decraemer, 1983 e.g. in ornamentation of the body cuticle with spine-like setae surrounded by concretion material. (ref. ID; 878)
